Zara Tindall attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany, on Tuesday evening. The Princess Royal’s daughter, who is not a working royal, was seen smiling in a carriage at Allianz Park before watching the rest of the ceremony from the stands.
Royal presence at the event
Zara, who wore all black, was not the only royal present. Queen Mary of Denmark, Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo and sister of King Felipe VI of Spain, Princess Amalia of the Netherlands, and Princess Benedikte of Denmark also attended. Zara was the only British royal spotted at the event and was not believed to be accompanied by her husband Mike Tindall.
Nostalgic connection to the championships
Zara likely felt nostalgia at the ceremony, having competed at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, where she won individual eventing gold riding her horse Toytown. The opening ceremony featured equestrian displays with more than 250 horses, live music, dance performances, a parade with competing riders, and a water show with dancing fountains.
Zara appeared happy and confident, smiling to cameras as she arrived. It is not known how long she plans to stay in Germany or whether she will attend the rest of the championships.
