Wimbledon 2026 Final Preparations Underway
Ground staff at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club have been spotted removing covers from courts, cleaning, and watering plants just hours before the start of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships. The tournament begins on Monday, June 29, and runs through Sunday, July 12, with hundreds of thousands of spectators expected over the fortnight.
Workers were seen pulling back covers on Court 2, cleaning the Wimbledon logo on Centre Court, and watering garden beds outside the main stadium. The final touches come as ticketless fans have already set up dozens of tents in Wimbledon Park, queuing overnight for a chance to purchase tickets for the opening day.
Opening Day Matches and Star Players
The first round of gentlemen's and ladies' singles will take place on Monday. Notable players scheduled to compete include UK's Emma Raducanu, Japan's Naomi Osaka, Serbia's Novak Djokovic, and men's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Fans have been camping in the sunshine, with some lying out near their tents as they wait for the gates to open.
Emma Raducanu Injury Concerns
Emma Raducanu has cast doubt on her participation in the championships after being spotted with a strap on her leg during a training session. The 23-year-old has a history of injuries and was forced to cut short a training session yesterday due to a right foot injury. Photographs showed strapping on her leg and the player sitting on the court during the session, sparking fears among fans about her fitness for the tournament.
According to PA Wire, Raducanu's management team has not yet commented on the severity of the injury or whether she will withdraw. The British star has struggled with various physical issues since her US Open victory in 2021, and this latest setback adds uncertainty to her Wimbledon campaign.
