After England's dramatic 2-1 World Cup victory over DR Congo on Wednesday, the nation is now looking ahead to Sunday's late-night clash with Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. The match will kick off at 1am on Monday UK time, which means that most pubs and other usual venues will be shut because of alcohol licensing laws. It leaves a headache for many England supporters who are looking to cheer on Harry Kane and co in the small hours.
Boxparks
Fans will be able to see Thomas Tuchel's men in action at all the Boxparks in the UK – London's Croydon, Wembley, Camden, Shoreditch and in Liverpool. Tickets range in price from £23 to £33 and the venues will stay open to 4am, meaning that even if it goes to penalties you will be able to catch every moment. Because of a high demand for tickets, Boxpark has stated that the events will be an “England-fans-only-event”.
Fanzones
There will be a number of non-Boxpark ‘fan zones’ events around the country showing the game, including We Are Football Festival at Freight Island in Manchester. Powered by 4TheFans, the event has proved to be incredibly popular with fans so far for its huge anti-glare screens, top-tier sound system, live entertainment, and food and drink stalls. Doors will open at 10pm. Tickets start from £4.50 for general admission, with a range of premium, VIP and family options also available to choose from. For the Mexicans wishing to watch the game, The Fire Club and The Garden Vauxhall in London will be showing it.
Late Night Bars and Pubs
If pubs have a license which allows them to stay open until the early hours of the morning, then the likelihood is that they will be showing the match. Pubs such as the Blue Vinny in Dorchester, the Holly Bush in Oxford and The Crooked Billet in Upper Clapton, London, are all showing it. Fans are encouraged to check BarTrender.co.uk on the day, to find out which of their local boozers will be screening. Some pubs without a license are even giving punters a wristband so they can head over to a nearby warehouse to watch the game.
Casinos
There are a number of late night casinos with TVs where you can watch some nervy extra time between rounds of Blackjack. Casinos invariably stay open into the small hours of the morning, including Bally's Casino in Newcastle which has pledged to show England's Round of 16 match.
Strip Clubs
Some strip clubs double up as late-night sports bars, as long as you don't mind someone strutting across your view of the screen. Angels VIP in Liverpool confirmed to Daily Star they were one such adult establishment set to show the match.
Your TV
Another option is to stay at home and turn on your TV at 1am (or earlier if you want to hear the pundits chat). Then you can switch to BBC One and see England's football live, without fear of getting sprayed by a flying pint of Stella.
