The Football League returns this weekend, with West Ham opening their Championship campaign at Burnley, while Arsenal and Manchester City take their Premier League rivalry to Cardiff for the Community Shield, and Amy Hunt looks to add to her gold medal haul at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
Football League action
Saturday's programme kicks off with Matchday live from 8am, with Emillia Hawkins covering the fallout from Friday night's Wolves v Blackburn Championship opener and all the buildup to the rest of the programme. A Bolton v Preston derby starts the day's second-tier matches, alongside League One and League Two games, though most matches kick off at 3pm. Transfer news and gossip across the men's and women's games will also be included.
At 1.30pm, the Football League clockwatch will follow the pick of the Championship matches, including Middlesbrough v Lincoln, with Scott Murray reporting from the Riverside and other grounds. Early League One games include Leicester's second ever season in the third tier starting at playoff-winning Notts County.
Community Shield in Cardiff
On Sunday, the Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester City takes place at the Principality Stadium for the first time since 2006, when Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1. The match is a traditional Wembley curtain raiser, but this year it is in Cardiff, reportedly because four nights of concerts from the Weeknd were more lucrative. Burnley v West Ham
The Championship game of the weekend is Burnley v West Ham, deemed by Sky to be a claret-and-blue derby. It is the first English league game for Burnley's new manager, Nicky Hayen, a Belgian coach in his 12th role in 13 years. European Athletics Championships
Saturday is the penultimate night at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, with high home hopes for the men's 100m relay at 9.33pm, after Romell Glave and Jeremiah Azu completed a British one-two in the individual event. Amy Hunt, the women's double sprint gold medallist, targets relay glory a quarter of an hour later. Other British hopefuls include Amber Anning in the women's 400m at 8.10pm and Jake Wightman in the men's 1500m at 9.07pm. Sunday is the last night of action, with a rack of relays. The mixed 4x100m is at 8.35pm, the men's 4x400m at 9.48pm with Matt Hudson-Smith, and the women's 4x400m 15 minutes earlier with Amber Anning.
