Vanja Dragojevic seals Rangers transfer as new 'leader' tells fans he's wanted this for MONTHS
Vanja Dragojevic seals Rangers transfer as new 'leader'

Derek McInnes reckons Rangers have landed a ready-made leader after announcing the signing of Partizan Belgrade skipper Vanja Dragojevic.

The Ibrox outfit have splashed out £4.6million on the highly-rated 20-year-old central midfielder, who becomes their seventh signing of the summer.

The deal includes a 10-percent sell-on clause while Dragojevic has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract that also has an option for a fifth.

Captain at a young age

Capped twice by Serbia, Dragojevic was still a teenager when he was named captain of the Belgrade giants. He made 41 appearances last season, including two in the explosive Eternal Derby clashes against Red Star. Now McInnes is hoping his experience of those bitter battles will ensure he slots right in here in Glasgow.

McInnes on the new signing

The new Gers gaffer said: "We are really excited to bring Vanja on board. He's got huge potential, really exciting attributes, and boasts the character to play in this environment. To captain a club the size of FK Partizan at such a young age tells you everything you need to know about the respect he commands and the leadership qualities he already possesses. I believe he will add a lot to our group, and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead."

First look for fans

The Ibrox faithful will get their first look at Dragojevic when Gers step up their pre-season prep work by hosting West Ham at Ibrox on Sunday. And the new recruit can't wait to get started.

He said: "It feels amazing, and I'm really happy and proud to be part of such a big club like Rangers. It's a big opportunity and I can't wait to get started. I first heard [the interest] three months ago, and when I heard it I already knew it was very interesting to me because I think the winning mentality that Rangers have is compatible with my mentality."
