Fairground Ride Plummets 50ft in India, 12 Seriously Injured

A fairground ride in Navsari, Gujarat, India, plummeted 50 feet to the ground on Sunday, August 17, leaving 12 people seriously injured. The swing ride was spinning at full height when it malfunctioned, crashing down as onlookers screamed. Witnesses covered their faces in horror as the incident unfolded.

Among the injured were two children, a man, and a woman, according to the Associated Press. The ride operator also suffered serious head and waist injuries. All victims were rushed to a private hospital in Bilimora for treatment, with fire crews from Bilimora assisting in rescue efforts. Police have secured the area and are investigating potential failures in maintenance and safety inspections.

Footage captured by an onlooker shows the ride at its highest point, spinning with music playing, before it slides down, pauses briefly, and then slams into the ground. The video ends as screams erupt. This incident follows similar accidents, including one in Saudi Arabia last month where 23 people were injured, and a 2022 crash in Punjab, India, that injured over 50 people.
