Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de 4 cycling event is set to return to Scotland, with the event taking place in Glasgow on September 6. The ride will start and finish at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome at Emirates Arena, and fundraising is underway after the inaugural 2025 event raised £3,142,647.
Founded by the Scottish Olympic champion after his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis, Tour de 4 aims to bring together those affected by cancer, challenge perceptions, inspire hope, and raise funds for cancer charities across the UK.
Registration deadline
Participants must sign up by midnight on August 10 to secure a spot riding with Sir Chris Hoy. The event offers four cycling routes, with fundraising supporting Breast Cancer Now, Cure Leukaemia, Maggie’s, Prostate Cancer UK, and Macmillan Cancer Support. Participants can also choose to raise money for any UK cancer charity.
According to the Tour de 4 website, over 300 cancer charities are registered in the UK, more than 3 million people are estimated to be living with cancer, and 1 in 2 of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime.
Road closures and safety
The official website notes that road closures will only occur at the start and finish sections. Cyclists will be on open roads and are advised to follow the Highway Code at all times. Marshals will be positioned at key junctions and feed stations to guide riders. In case of a life-threatening emergency, participants should call 999 immediately, and full first-aid information is included in the rider pack.
Cycling routes
Tour de 4 offers four different rides to suit various abilities:
- Red Ride: A 56-mile route for seasoned riders seeking a challenge.
- Blue: A shorter, rewarding ride ideal for casual cyclists.
- Green: A 1KM family route around the velodrome grounds, with up to 6 places per entry (e.g., 2 adults and 4 children).
- Yellow: Static bikes in the track centre for those unable to cycle on the road, with sessions from 1 to 20 minutes.

Age requirements and start times
Age limits are as follows: 56-mile (16+), 28-mile (16+, under 18s must be accompanied), 1K ride (all ages, under 18s must be accompanied), and static bikes (14+, under 18s must have an adult present).
Start times are: 56-mile at 8:15am, 28-mile at 9:15am, with static bikes and 1K ride times to be confirmed. The website advises participants to arrive at the allocated time and not early; late arrivals may miss their wave and should speak to the start-line team.
Entry fees
