Ruben Amorim is reportedly on the verge of securing a new managerial role just months after being dismissed as Manchester United head coach. The Portuguese tactician is in advanced talks to take over at AC Milan, according to multiple reports.
Amorim Frontrunner for San Siro Job
Amorim has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro. Direct discussions have already taken place, with the 41-year-old preferred over other contenders including Oliver Glasner, Mauricio Pochettino, and Sebastian Hoeness. Should he be appointed, he could work alongside former United manager Ralf Rangnick, who is being considered for a sporting director role at the Italian club.
Potential Reunion with United
If Amorim takes charge at AC Milan, a reunion with Manchester United could come sooner than expected. The Red Devils have confirmed a pre-season friendly against the Serie A giants on Saturday, August 15 in Wroclaw, Poland. This match would take place just eight months after Amorim's controversial departure from Old Trafford in January.
Amorim was sacked following a remarkable outburst where he criticized the club's hierarchy. "I just want to say that I'm going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach," he stated. "That is going to finish in 18 months, and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal. If people cannot handle the Gary Nevilles and the criticism of everything, we need to change the club."
Amorim's Tenure at United
The 41-year-old spent just over 12 months at the helm, having arrived in November 2024. During his 64 matches in charge, United secured 25 wins, 23 defeats, and 15 draws. He was succeeded by Michael Carrick, initially on a temporary basis, who turned the club's fortunes around and secured Champions League qualification.
Under Carrick, United recorded 12 wins, three draws, and two losses in 17 matches, finishing third in the Premier League. Carrick has since been appointed permanently and is heavily involved in pre-season preparations. Before facing AC Milan, United will play friendlies against Wrexham, Rosenborg, Atletico Madrid, and PSG.
