Rashford Eyes Man Utd Return After Barcelona Loan

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly weighing up a dramatic return to Old Trafford under manager Michael Carrick, following a successful loan spell at Barcelona. The 28-year-old England international has been away from the club for 18 months but is now exploring the possibility of rejoining the first-team squad.

Rashford's Barcelona Stint

During his time at Barcelona, Rashford impressed with 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season. The La Liga giants had an option to sign him permanently for £26 million but chose not to activate the clause after signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £69 million, as both players operate in similar positions.

Contact with Teammates

According to a report from The Sun, Rashford has already reached out to members of United's first-team squad to gauge their thoughts on a potential return and has received "positive feedback." Manager Michael Carrick has also made contact with the forward amid mounting speculation over his future.

Rashford has not played for United's first team since December 2024, having fallen out of favour under former head coach Ruben Amorim, who departed in January 2026. Carrick, who was confirmed as permanent manager last month, now faces a decision on whether Rashford fits into his plans.

Carrick's Stance

Back in April, Carrick was asked about the possibility of Rashford returning and did not rule it out. "I just think there's decisions to be made in time on certain things and obviously Marcus is in that situation," Carrick said. "But at this point in time, nothing's been decided. And it will be, because it has to be at a certain point. But at this stage, there's nothing to say."

Rashford is currently with the England squad in the United States preparing for their World Cup opener against Croatia. The forward's future remains uncertain, but a return to Manchester United is now a distinct possibility.
