Dundee head coach Steven Pressley has expressed excitement over the arrival of Matai Akinmboni, a Bournemouth defender who is training with the Dark Blues ahead of a potential loan move.
Trial and Assessment
The 19-year-old, formerly of DC United, is being evaluated by Pressley before any commitment is made. Speaking about the trialist, Pressley said: "He trained with us today. We'll assess him over the period. He looks like an interesting player."
Pressley added: "I'm looking forward to seeing him over the period and being able to assess him. He seems a very pleasant character. I spoke to him at length today. We're excited by him. He comes with a lot of hope and high regard from Bournemouth."
Defensive Cover Needed
Dundee have been seeking defensive reinforcements after allowing Aaron Donnelly to join Dunfermline Athletic on loan. Currently, Owen Bevan and Ryan Astley are the only fit central defenders at the club.
Injury Concerns
The club is also monitoring Ash Hay's knee injury, while Joe Westley's knock is not expected to be serious. Hay's condition is the main worry ahead of their Premier Sports Cup match against Aberdeen this weekend.
Pressley provided an update: "We're okay around Joe Westley, it looks like a contact injury. There's a chance he could return to training tomorrow, if not tomorrow then likely it'll be Wednesday. Ash Hay is the concern. There's swelling around the knee and there's a little bit of a concern there."
He continued: "We need to wait on the swelling going down before he can get a more accurate MRI scan, but that's a little bit of a concern for us just now. He's a big player for us, we just hope that it settles quickly. There is a little bit of worry around that."
Max Anderson Returns
Former Dundee midfielder Max Anderson is back training with the club after his release from Crawley Town. He had initially been using training facilities with the under-19s.
Pressley noted: "Max actually trained with Scott Robertson's squad last week so he's now joined up with us. The least we can do is support him just now as he looks for a new club. He'll be training with us at the open training session on Tuesday."
