Padel enthusiasts in the North East have a new venue to visit, as Pikup Padel has opened an 11-court centre in Follingsby Park, Gateshead. The facility is one of the largest in the region.
Rise of Padel
Over recent years, padel has surged in popularity, becoming one of the most popular hobbies in the country. The sport combines elements of tennis and squash, played in an enclosed court, most commonly in doubles.
Padel centres have opened in Newcastle, South Shields, and Sunderland. Earlier this year, Padel Up opened near the Metrocentre. Now, Gateshead gains another state-of-the-art facility with Pikup Padel in Follingsby Park, on the road to Washington.
Community and Vision
The flagship site aims to ensure players of all abilities can benefit from joining a vibrant padel community in Gateshead. Pikup Padel hopes the centre will become a key player in the national rise in enthusiasm for the game.
Pikup Padel's managing director Paddy Kendall said: “Launching our first-ever site was a major decision, and Follingsby Park immediately stood out as a location that reflects our vision for the sport, while enabling us to become part of a dynamic and growing business community.”
