Peppa Pig experience at Metrocentre to close after five months
Peppa Pig Metrocentre experience to close after five months

Peppa Pig's Surprise Party at the Metrocentre in Gateshead is set to close this weekend, just five months after it opened to great excitement and long queues. Families have just over 24 hours to visit before the doors shut for good.

Closing announced with 'great sadness'

The attraction, which was the first of its kind anywhere in the UK, opened on the upper level of the Green Mall in March, alongside the popular Peppa Pig's Market store. It offered 'imaginative play, interactive learning and live puppetry' for children up to six years old and their families.

At the heart of the experience was Peppatown, where visitors could explore exciting places, take on fun missions, and uncover hidden treasures. On opening day, ChronicleLive reported queues outside, with celebrities like Scarlett Moffatt among the early visitors.

Bookings and refunds

The closure was confirmed after it was noticed that no bookings could be made on the event's website after Saturday, August 9. A spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we've made the difficult decision to bring the Peppa Pig: Surprise Party experience to an earlier than planned close."

The statement continued: "From the very beginning, our ambition was to create something truly special for families across the Northeast – a place where children could step into Peppa's world, make magical memories together and experience the beloved brand in a way that had never been possible before. We're immensely proud of what we created and of the joy it brought to so many families."

Guests with existing bookings will be contacted directly regarding tickets and refunds, with further information available through customer services. The spokesperson added: "We'd like to thank everyone who supported Peppa Pig: Surprise Party throughout its run. It has been a privilege to welcome so many families through our doors, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who chose to visit and share the experience with us."
