Graeme Lowdon, a businessman from Corbridge, Northumberland, has been replaced as the head of the Cadillac Formula 1 team. The team thanked him for his leadership, noting he "built the team from the ground up." Lowdon was first announced as Team Principal of the fledgling outfit in December 2024.
Encouraging Start and Leadership Change
Cadillac had experienced an encouraging start to its time on the top table of motorsport, competing with Aston Martin at the back of the grid and coming close to winning a first ever point. With the experienced driver pairing of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, success felt like a matter of when not if, but a change in leadership has now been made.
Northumberland-born Graeme, 61, has left his position leading the team, with former Alpine director Marcin Budkowski being brought in to replace him. In doing this, Cadillac says that it is "strengthening the organisation’s leadership team," describing the change as a "planned leadership transition."
Gratitude and Next Steps
In the section of the statement directed towards Mr Lowdon, Dan Towriss, the CEO of Cadillac F1 Team, continued: "We’re grateful to Graeme Lowdon for his leadership and the role he played in forming the Cadillac Formula 1 Team from the ground up. His contributions helped establish a strong foundation in our build-up phase, and we thank him for his commitment and wish him well."
Graeme Lowdon had previously helped to develop Manor Motorsport into a Formula 1 team, and created Virgin Racing Team. Lowdon, who attended Prudhoe High School and Newcastle University, and is a supporter of Newcastle United, now looks set to return to the region.
North East Pride and Future Races
Speaking back in March about representing his local area, Graeme said this: "I personally am very proud of my North East roots as they have helped me get to this point. It is a privilege to represent the North East in such a global sport."
On what is next for Cadillac, Mr Towriss added: "The Cadillac Formula 1 Team returns to the track following the summer break, entering the Dutch Grand Prix race next weekend, August 21 – 23, with valuable learnings from the first half of its debut season and a sharpened focus on the next phase of its competitive journey."
