Newcastle Under-21s Set Pre-Season Games Against Spennymoor and St Mirren

Newcastle United have confirmed that their under-21 side will play pre-season friendlies against National League North side Spennymoor Town and Scottish Premiership side St Mirren as part of their preparations for the 2025/26 season.

Spennymoor Town Fixture Details

Robbie Stockdale's young Magpies will travel to the Brewery Field on Thursday, July 30, with the match kicking off at 7pm. Ticket information for this fixture will be confirmed in due course, the club announced.

St Mirren Behind Closed Doors Match

Newcastle's under-21s will then head to Scotland to face St Mirren in a behind-closed-doors fixture on Wednesday, August 12, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30pm.

Both matches will provide a stern test for Stockdale's side as they prepare for the 2025/26 PL2 season, the Premier League International Cup, and the Northumberland Challenge Cup. Newcastle finished 21st in the PL2 table last season and were beaten by Swansea City in the Premier League Development League play-offs.

EFL Trophy and Other Friendlies

More importantly, testing themselves against first-team opposition will be ideal preparation as the club's youngsters get ready to compete in the EFL Trophy again. Stockdale will take his young side to Valley Parade to face League One promotion hopefuls Bradford City, as well as the LNER Community Stadium to take on newly promoted League Two side York City. They will also travel to the AESSEAL New York Stadium to take on League Two side Rotherham United, managed by Alex Bruce, son of former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce, and whose head of football is ex-Magpies manager Steve McClaren.
