England will face Norway in the 2026 World Cup quarter-final on Saturday, and a new fan zone will open in Newcastle for the occasion. The match kicks off at 10pm, promising another night of high drama after England's thrilling 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16.
England's Epic Win Over Mexico
The early hours of Monday morning saw England produce a memorable performance at the Azteca Stadium. After a delayed kick-off until 2am, England raced to a 2-0 lead within two minutes. However, the game turned when Jarell Quansah was sent off early in the second half. Mexico pulled one back, but Harry Kane restored the two-goal lead from the penalty spot. A second Mexico penalty, scored by Jimenez, set up a tense finale, but England's defence, including a World Cup debut from substitute Dan Burn, held firm to secure a 3-2 win.
Norway's Upset Over Brazil
Earlier on Monday, Norway caused a shock by defeating Brazil 2-1 in their round of 16 match, setting up the quarter-final clash with England. Newcastle fans celebrated England's win with scenes of joy, and the city is expected to be packed for Saturday's match.
New Fan Zone at NX
NX, a popular venue in Newcastle city centre, will host a new fan zone for the quarter-final. Previously a hub for England and Newcastle United supporters, NX announced on social media: 'If you can’t make it to Miami, this is the next best place to be - a giant screen, World Cup DJs, massive flag displays, special guests and hundreds of England fans coming together under one roof for a huge knockout night under the lights.'
The venue promises pre-match build-up, tournament tunes, crowd interaction, and an electric atmosphere. With one of the largest indoor screens in the city and a powerful sound system, NX aims to become Newcastle's home of the World Cup. Tickets are priced at £9.70, with doors opening at 7.30pm and last entry at 9pm.
England's Quarter-Final Prospects
England, under manager Thomas Tuchel, will look to build on their dramatic win against Mexico. Norway, buoyed by their victory over Brazil, will pose a significant challenge. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 10pm, and fans in Newcastle will have multiple options to watch the game, including the new fan zone at NX.
