Manchester United take on AC Milan this afternoon in their final pre-season game of the summer. Milan manager Ruben Amorim will meet United for the first time since he was appointed by the Italian club.
Amorim's return and Carrick's preparations
Amorim was sacked by United in January amid rising tensions with the board, with Michael Carrick taking over on an interim basis. Carrick guided the Reds to a third-place finish in the Premier League, and he hopes the team's pre-season preparations this summer have laid the foundations for an even better campaign.
Benjamin Sesko has not made an appearance throughout pre-season so far, and he again misses out, as does Mason Mount. Marcus Rashford could also be seen in action in a red shirt for the first time since December 2024. Carrick has been pleased with Rashford in training and has reiterated that he is a United player.
Tyrone Marshall's team
It makes sense to play as close as possible a team to the one that will start against Hull here, which is what I would do. That means Lammens in goal, obviously. Dalot and Shaw are clearly the first-choice full-backs and I'd play Maguire and Yoro together at centre-back.
Midfield is a tricky one, because it was Mount, but his injury is now something of a mystery. Tielemans is ahead of Mainoo from a fitness point of view so has to start alongside Santos, who is a lock in midfield. Fernandes should also be ready to start his first game of pre-season.
Sesko's absence also remains a concern and even if he is fit next week, there is no way he can start. Mbeumo has been very good at centre-forward, Amad can continue on the right and I'd start Cunha on the left.
Steven Railston's team
It's the final game of pre-season, so it's advantageous for the line-up to mirror the XI who will start on the opening day of the campaign against Hull. Maguire should start alongside Yoro if he's fit.
Mount missed the game against Leeds in Dublin as a precaution and I would have brought him back into the team if he had been included, but he's absent again, so Tielemans should start instead.
Mbeumo is nailed on to start down the middle again. Dorgu hasn't really done much wrong on the left wing, but his final ball lacked a bit against Leeds, so I would like to see Cunha given a chance from the first whistle.
