Manchester United's academy teams are set to travel to Germany next week for a pre-season camp, which will include two friendlies against local sides. The club's Professional Development Phase (PDP) squad, comprising players from the Under-17 to Under-21 age groups, will take on TSV 1860 Munich and FC Nurnberg at the Adi-Dassler Stadium on Friday, July 17.
Friendlies Against German Youth Teams
The young Reds will face TSV 1860 Munich's U17s in their first match, followed by a clash against FC Nurnberg's U19s later the same day. The trip also includes a visit to Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach.
First-Year Scholars Included
United's newly confirmed first-year scholar intake will be part of the traveling group. Among them are Jacey Carrick, son of former midfielder Michael Carrick, and Kai Rooney, son of club legend Wayne Rooney. Both signed their scholarship deals earlier this week. Kai Rooney made his debut at Old Trafford last season, appearing as a substitute in an FA Youth Cup match against Derby County. Jacey Carrick, who will play as an Under-18 next term, did not make his Youth Cup debut but is expected to feature in the German friendlies.
U21s Management Reshuffle
Adam Lawrence will take permanent charge of United's U21s next season. Lawrence returned to the club in January on an interim basis following a coaching staff reshuffle. He began work at Carrington again on Monday, and an official announcement of his permanent appointment is expected imminently.
