Man United confirm fifth signing as Scott faces Chelsea twist

Manchester United have confirmed their fifth summer signing under manager Michael Carrick: teenage goalkeeper Kit Margetson. The 20-year-old joins after leaving Swansea City at the end of his contract last month.

Kit Margetson joins from Swansea

Margetson spent last season on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads in the Cymru Premier, keeping 10 clean sheets in 34 appearances and helping the Welsh side qualify for European competition. A club statement said: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young goalkeeper Kit Margetson, subject to registration. The 20-year-old was most recently at Swansea City, a club he'd been with since under-15s."

He is United's fifth summer addition, joining midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow, and former Tottenham youngster Tynan Thompson. Darlow was brought in as a free agent from Leeds to provide backup to Senne Lammens, while Andre Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan.

Alex Scott transfer twist

United's hopes of signing Bournemouth's Alex Scott may face a complication as Chelsea plan a second bid. According to Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea saw an initial £64m offer turned down by Bournemouth, who insist the midfielder is not for sale. Scott, 22, has turned down a new contract with the Cherries.

United continue to assess other midfield targets including Roma's Manu Kone, Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, and Brighton's Carlos Baleba.
