Maguire rested for Man Utd vs Leeds, Mount absence explained

Harry Maguire is being rested for Manchester United's pre-season friendly against Leeds as Michael Carrick looks to spread minutes around his squad in pre-season.

Maguire is at Croke Park for the clash with Leeds but isn't included in the squad, but he trained with the group back at United's Carton House training base earlier on Wednesday. That group included Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford, who all returned from a post-World Cup break this week.

Defensive options and Maguire's expected return

Carrick has picked Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven at centre-back, while Dan Armer is an option off the bench. Maguire is expected to be available for the final friendly of the summer against AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday.

Mount and Heaton injury updates

Mason Mount is also missing from the squad and the 27-year-old hasn't trained fully since going off with a foot injury against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg on Saturday, but Mount's fitness isn't a concern and his absence against Leeds is considered a precaution, with the start of the Premier League season just 10 days away.

There is more concern around Tom Heaton. The 40-year-old goalkeeper also came off injured against PSG and his injury is continuing to be assessed by United's medical team.
