Liverpool: Carragher on Gravenberch red, Arsenal eye Mora

Liverpool suffered a 24-hour double blow, with Ryan Gravenberch's controversial red card in the defeat to Manchester City at Anfield followed by reports that Arsenal have made contact over transfer target Gilberto Mora.

The Reds had been the better side until Gravenberch was dismissed, allowing Manchester City to run riot. It was the first match for Enzo Mareca's side since their guilty verdict, which City have already appealed, and they were met with boos at Anfield.

Carragher's verdict on Gravenberch red

Jamie Carragher believes Gravenberch was harshly treated after being dismissed following a second yellow card for fouling Jeremy Doku, reports the Mirror. The Netherlands international had previously been cautioned for a tackle on Elliot Anderson, but Carragher insists that challenge did not merit a booking.

Carragher said: "The first was not a yellow, it was so harsh. It was a nothing challenge, the referee was far too quick to get the card...The first was the same, the referee was so quick to get a yellow out."

Gary Neville commented: "That is very, very soft. Knowing you're on a yellow and on the wrong side of Doku, does he need to make the challenge? Giving the referee a dilemma!"

Liverpool's Mora pursuit 'hijacked'

Liverpool had been tracking the progress of Mexican World Cup star Gilberto Mora, but their pursuit may now have been hijacked by Arsenal. Mora, 18, would have been free to move in January after recently celebrating his birthday.

Mexican outlet El Provenir claims Arsenal have made contact with his current club regarding a potential move. The 18-year-old caught the eye in the summer after becoming Mexico's youngest ever player at the World Cup. Mora is said to have a release clause of £21.2million in his existing deal, which runs until 2029.
