Nick Kyrgios is making his return to Wimbledon this week, partnering with Alexander Bublik in the men's doubles. Bublik, a Kazakh star seeded 10th in singles, has a controversial history with the sport, once stating he 'hated every day' he had to play and only competed for money. However, he later clarified those remarks, saying they were taken out of context and that he now enjoys tennis.
Bublik's Lucrative Training Session
Bublik earned £118,000 for a two-hour training session with two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in Italy. He was first alternate at the ATP Tour finals last year but did not play. Despite his earlier comments, Bublik has nine ATP titles, including five since 2025.
Singles Progress and Doubles Opener
In singles, Bublik defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis in five sets after trailing by two sets to one. He next faces French qualifier Kyrian Jacquet. In doubles, Kyrgios and Bublik face sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, who won the 2024 French Open men's doubles title and reached the Wimbledon semis last year.
