If you were in the vicinity of Newcastle city centre on Sunday and wondered why there were massive queues right in the heart of town, wonder no more. The reason for the large turnout near Monument was the arrival of an F1 car, which gave fans of the sport a fantastic photo opportunity and the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Silverstone.
Huge Reaction Predicted
We could have predicted from the huge reaction to our story on Friday that the F1 car was coming to Newcastle that there would be a large turnout to see it. The ChronicleLive Facebook post about the chance to see the Audi Revolut F1 Team R26 show car got hundreds of shares and comments.
The Eye-Catching Vehicle
The eye-catching vehicle, housed inside a big clear box, took up residence in Newcastle as the city became the latest calling point on a 14-date UK tour. Tyneside was crowned the UK's digital racing capital by Revolut, thanks to consuming the sport through social media and content creators more than any other region.
Before the clock had even struck 10am, when the pop-up was due to start, there were already plenty of people lined up to be among the first to get closer to it. Before long, the line stretched all the way back to Grey's Monument as more and more people turned up late morning and into the afternoon.
Ultimate Opportunity for Fans
It was billed as the 'ultimate' opportunity for F1 fans, and one that many were clearly happy to have. ChronicleLive called down to get some shots of the queue as it got bigger and bigger.
Loads of Formula 1 fans turned up to see the Audi Revolut F1 show car in Grainger Street, Newcastle. The show car is on a nationwide tour, and the queue ended up being huge. Fans posed with the car, delighted to get a photo with it, and the queue kept getting bigger and bigger.
