Fulham players walked off the pitch as Malaga scored a penalty into an empty net during their pre-season friendly, with the club later clarifying that both teams had agreed not to hold a shootout.
Players leave pitch after late penalty
The Premier League side refused to participate in a penalty shootout following the 2-2 draw. An opposing player was seen scoring into an empty net as his teammates celebrated, while Fulham left the pitch.
New manager Alvaro Arbeloa received a red card after the 90 minutes. He protested to officials about the late awarding of a penalty and was sent off as home supporters jeered.
Club statement confirms agreement
Fulham issued a statement saying: "Thank you for your excellent support in Malaga this evening. We can confirm that prior to the match, both teams agreed that there would not be a penalty shootout in the event of a draw."
Ryan Sessegnon broke the deadlock after 24 minutes, but Malaga striker Chupe levelled four minutes later. Alex Iwobi regained the lead shortly before the hour, only for Eneko Jauregi to convert a late spot-kick.
Match ends without shootout
Fulham headed for the changing rooms while Malaga players remained on the pitch. Malaga were declared Costa del Sol Trophy champions despite the draw.
