Eddie Howe’s departure from Newcastle has sent shockwaves throughout the Premier League just weeks before the new season gets underway. The Englishman has walked away from the St. James’ Park outfit, having reportedly told the club he wanted out earlier this summer. Matthias Jaissle has been sounded out as Howe’s replacement, but what next for the man himself? Express Sport have earmarked four jobs Howe could be in line for, should they crop up in the near future.
England
It’s said Howe is keen for a break from football, which could line up nicely with an opening for England manager. He was reportedly on the shortlist to replace Gareth Southgate, before the Three Lions chose to pursue Thomas Tuchel instead. But following a rocky ending to England’s 2026 World Cup campaign, there have been some suggestions Tuchel’s tenure might end sooner than expected. If an opening does present itself, expect Howe to be high up on the list of potential suitors.
Coventry
If Howe decided on returning sooner rather than later, Coventry could be his landing place. The Midlands outfit were promoted to the Premier League this season, but have had to fend off interest in manager Frank Lampard. If the ex-Chelsea ace was to have his head turned, Coventry could prove the ideal spot for Howe to return to management. He’s got history of turning Bournemouth into an established Premier League side and what’s to say he can’t do it again?
Bournemouth
Speaking of which, would anybody really rule out a third return to the Cherries? Bournemouth are also heading into the new season with a fresh manager, after Andoni Iraola left at the end of the previous campaign. They’ve rolled the dice on Marco Rose, but if that appointment doesn’t work out, perhaps a return to the tried and tested methods of Howe could be on the cards. He obviously has a deep connection to the football club and if Bournemouth find themselves struggling, it might be difficult for Howe not to step in.
Everton
And finally, how about Everton? David Moyes has done a stellar job since returning to the Toffees, but it feels like he might’ve once again taken them as far as he can. Everton would be the perfect fit for Howe, given their room to grow as a club, as well as fantastic, loyal supporter base. It would be a surprise if a vacancy at the Hill Dickinson Stadium opened up and Howe wasn’t mentioned in the conversation.
