Emmerdale Off Air Tonight Due to World Cup Coverage on ITV
Emmerdale Off Air Tonight for World Cup on ITV

Emmerdale has been pulled from ITV's schedule tonight (June 24) to make way for live coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Switzerland and Canada. The schedule shake-up also affects Coronation Street, which will not air this evening.

New Scheduling Pattern Disrupted

Earlier this year, both soaps moved to a new scheduling pattern. Emmerdale typically airs 30-minute episodes Monday to Friday at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm. Both are available from 7am on ITVX. However, on Wednesday, June 24, ITV will broadcast the World Cup instead.

Return Dates and Hour-Long Episodes

ITV confirmed that both soaps will return on Thursday, June 25, with hour-long episodes. Emmerdale will air at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 9pm. Further disruptions are expected on Friday, June 26, due to coverage of Norway vs France, and additional matches on Sunday and Monday (June 28 and 29). The soaps are not scheduled to return until Tuesday, June 30.

Emmerdale Storyline: Charity's Turmoil

In upcoming episodes, Charity Dingle confesses to husband Mackenzie Boyd about her ongoing trauma. Dr Todd recently fled the village after sexually assaulting Charity and blackmailing her over her baby secret—that baby Leyla is her child, not Sarah Sugden's. After forcing Charity to give her money, Todd raped her while she was drunk and then lied about it.

On Tuesday, June 24, Charity reached a breaking point. New character Serena Sugden helped her, and Charity revealed everything about the assault, baby Leyla, and the blackmail. Serena advised Charity to report the blackmail and expose Todd, noting that messages between them would serve as evidence.

Emmerdale returns Thursday, June 25 at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
