A power cut plunged Alexandra Palace into darkness, halting play during the PDC World Darts Championship before Peter Wright overcame Seigo Asada 4-2. The seventh seed struggled initially, changing his darts mid-match, but rallied to hit eight 180s with a 94.5 average.
Wright, known as 'Snakebite', will face Jeffrey de Zwaan in the last 16 after the Dutchman beat 10th seed Dave Chisnall in a seven-set thriller. De Zwaan averaged 106.09, hitting seven 180s and 53 per cent on doubles, while Chisnall averaged 101.75 and landed a 161 checkout to force a decider.
Two-time world champion Gary Anderson survived a scare, coming from 3-1 down to beat Ryan Searle 4-3. The Scot, who turned 49 on Sunday, will now play Nathan Aspinall for a quarter-final spot.
In earlier matches, Adrian Lewis fought back from two sets down to defeat Darren Webster 4-3, while Dimitri van den Bergh beat Luke Woodhouse 4-2. Luke Humphries also progressed, overcoming Nico Kurz 4-2 to reach the last 32 for the second consecutive year.
Play resumes on Friday, with Fallon Sherrock facing Chris Dobey in the third round.
