Celtic could sign TWO of Bosnia and Herzegovina's stars at the World Cup, with playmaker Ivan Basic now a reported target for Martin O'Neill. The Hoops are yet to get their transfer business started for next season but that's expected to change in the days ahead, with the window officially opening tomorrow morning.
They've been linked with a number of names including Brondby's Bosnian midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic. Now his international teammate and midfield partner Basic is also being targeted as part of what could be an ambitious double swoop.
The Scottish Sun say the 24-year-old, who plays his club football for Astana in Kazakhstan, is being watched closely by Celtic at the World Cup. Both Basic and Tahirovic started their country's opening game against host nation Canada, forming the midfield double pivot in Sergej Barbarez's team.
Basic, born in Croatia, would likely be the cheaper of the duo and plays a more reserved midfield role than Tahirovic. But the duo compliment each other well at international level and could provide a major boost to O'Neill's midfield.
The Hoops desperately need reinforcements in the centre of the pitch. As things stand their options are slim. Callum McGregor, Luke McCowan, Paulo Bernardo, Reo Hatate and Arne Engels are the only signed players in that area. Hatate however is widely expected to leave while Engels continues to be linked with a move away of his own.
Bosnia face Switzerland on Thursday, June 18 in their next World Cup game and it's one Celtic will likely have a keen eye on.
