The Carabao Cup second-round draw takes place this evening, with Cardiff City the only Welsh team left in the hat following the weekend’s results.
The Bluebirds defeated Swindon Town 3-2 at Cardiff City Stadium, with a late winner from new arrival Jack Moylan. Swansea City and Wrexham both lost 1-0 to Birmingham City and Middlesbrough respectively in their opening ties. Meanwhile, Newport County lost out to AFC Wimbledon on penalties (5-4) in agonising fashion after being denied victory in the eighth minute of stoppage time when the Dons equalised to force a shootout.
Which Premier League teams enter?
At this stage of the competition, the eleven Premier League clubs that aren’t competing in Europe enter at the second-round stage. They will join the round one winners from the Championship, League One and League Two.
The EFL keeps the draw split into “Northern” and “Southern” sections for the opening two rounds. Therefore, Brian Barry-Murphy’s side will be placed in the “Southern” section.
When and where to watch the draw
The draw will take place on Monday, August 10, during the build-up of the final first-round tie between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter. It will be held around 7:20pm BST and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football & Sky Sports Main Event.
