The Carabao Cup first round draw will be conducted on Thursday, June 25, with Cardiff City, Wrexham and Swansea City all learning their opponents. The draw, hosted by Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth, will feature former Premier League midfielder Kevin Nolan and ex-Nottingham Forest defender Luke Chambers as draw assistants. A total of 70 clubs from the English Football League will be drawn regionally, with ties scheduled for the weekend of August 7.
Regional Split and Ball Numbers
Wrexham will be placed in the Northern Section of the draw, while Cardiff City and Swansea City are in the Southern Section. The ball numbers for the Welsh sides are: Wrexham – 33 (Northern), Cardiff – 8 (Southern), and Swansea – 30 (Southern). The draw is set to begin at 4:30 PM BST.
Competition Format and Significance
The first round offers Championship, League One, and League Two clubs a chance to compete before Premier League teams enter in the second and third rounds. For the three Welsh clubs, the Carabao Cup's importance may vary compared to the more financially rewarding FA Cup. Wrexham and Swansea City are both aiming for promotion to the Premier League, while Cardiff City returns to the Championship after winning promotion from League One at the first attempt.
According to Wales Online, the draw will be broadcast live, and updates will be provided as the results are announced.
