Allan McGregor is set to make a sensational return to Rangers as the club's new goalkeeping coach. Record Sport can exclusively reveal the Ibrox icon has agreed to join Derek McInnes' backroom staff following the departure of Sal Bibbo.
McGregor's Return to Ibrox
It's understood McGregor arrived at the Auchenhowie training centre at around 8am on Wednesday and is expected to be unveiled later today. A source said the legendary goalie would "do anything for the club" and is thrilled to be back at Rangers.
McGregor made more than 500 appearances for his boyhood club during a glittering playing career, lifting 13 major honours. He was No.1 in Steven Gerrard's title-winning side that stopped Celtic winning ten-in-a-row in 2021 and was also part of the 2008 and 2022 UEFA Cup Final teams.
Coaching Journey
The ex-Scotland international, 44, retired in 2023 before making a surprise return to the club as part of Barry Ferguson's interim coaching staff last year. When Russell Martin took over last summer, the flop boss brought in former Arsenal goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo as part of his backroom team, ending McGregor's brief spell on the coaching staff.
But with Bibbo agreeing a move to Frank Lampard's newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City, McInnes has moved quickly to bring the Rangers legend back to the club.
