The January transfer window is in full swing, with Premier League clubs actively pursuing targets and reshaping their squads. Daily Mail Sport's Simon Jones brings the latest developments, featuring potential moves for defenders, forwards, and a significant impending free agent departure.
Defensive Reinforcements on the Agenda
Newcastle United have been presented with an opportunity to bolster their defensive options. The Magpies have received an offer to sign Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza. The versatile 26-year-old, capable of playing both centre-back and full-back, sees his contract expire in the summer. Celta Vigo are pushing for a fee in the region of £8 million to sell him during this window. It is understood the Spanish defender has also been proposed to Aston Villa and West Ham United.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are readying an improved offer for Santos left wing-back Souza. Their initial proposal of approximately £8 million was turned down by the Brazilian club. However, a bid closer to the £18 million mark could secure the services of the highly-rated 19-year-old.
Attacking Targets Across the League
Spurs' search for attacking talent has intensified following the thigh injury to Mohammed Kudus. The North London club have made enquiries for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande and Manchester City's Oscar Bobb, with the latter expected to join Borussia Dortmund. City's Savinho is also admired but is considered too expensive at this stage.
Brentford continue to impress with their recruitment strategy and are now keen on Club Brugge’s young forward Kaye Furo. The 18-year-old Belgium U21 international, who stands at 6ft 3ins, made his senior debut as a substitute against Rangers in the Champions League this season.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are maintaining talks with Blackburn Rovers over the potential signing of 17-year-old forward Igor Tyjon. The Gunners have monitored the England U18 international's progress for over a year.
Contract Talks, Loans and a Major Exit
West Ham United striker Callum Wilson is looking to terminate his contract within the next ten days. The 33-year-old, who was originally in the squad to face Nottingham Forest, was subsequently withdrawn and is now set to become a free agent. He is attracting interest from both the UK and Saudi Arabia. In other West Ham news, young forward Callum Marshall is due to join German side VfL Bochum on loan.
Sheffield United are growing increasingly hopeful of extending Patrick Bamford's stay at Bramall Lane for the remainder of the season, despite rival interest from Ipswich Town. Bamford, a free agent signing after his release from Leeds United, has impressed during his short-term deal.
In the Championship, Brighton defender Eiran Cashin has cut short his loan spell at Birmingham City and is now set to join Blackburn Rovers on loan. Tottenham have also been active in the loan market, recalling winger Yang Min-Hyeok from Portsmouth and sending him to Coventry City, where he will be joined by Crystal Palace's Romain Esse.
