Ruben Neves has reportedly set his sights on a move to Real Madrid this month, despite continued links with Manchester United and a potential return to the Premier League. The 28-year-old midfielder currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, where his contract expires in the summer.
According to Carrusel Deportivo, via AS, Real Madrid staff have identified Neves as a target to bolster their creative midfield options. Neves is said to be keen on the move, even though Al-Hilal have offered him a lucrative contract extension. However, the Real Madrid board have doubts about the deal and are unwilling to pay a substantial fee, preferring to wait until the summer when he could be available on a free transfer.
Manchester United, who are seeking midfield reinforcements, have also been linked with Neves. However, with the club currently under interim manager Michael Carrick until the end of the season, they may refrain from significant January business. The transfer window closes on February 2.
Neves previously played for Wolves in the Premier League before joining Al-Hilal in 2023. With Real Madrid unlikely to make a major move this month, Neves may decide to see out his contract and assess his options in the summer.
