Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has insisted Marcus Rashford is 'our player' with the forward part of the manager's plans heading into the new season.
Rashford's Future at United
Rashford's time in Manchester appeared to be up when he joined Barcelona on loan last summer, a deal that was expected to be made permanent in a £26million deal. The Spanish giants however did not take up their option to sign the forward, instead bringing in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Rashford has been linked with moves across the Premier League but has rejoined his teammates for training ahead of United's Premier League opener against Hull City on Saturday 22 August.
Carrick's Comments
'He's our player, you know, and he's come back great. He's just like any other player,' Carrick told ITV1.
'I've known Marcus a long time and, you know, he gives us something a little bit different. And he's been in great spirits since he's been back.
'He's been back two or three days training and it's just pretty normal, to be honest. And we're looking forward to the start of the season.'
Pre-Season and Squad Plans
The England international joined the squad in Dublin for the pre-season clash with Leeds United at Croke Park on Wednesday evening, with Carrick's side beating their old rivals on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Rashford was not in the squad with his manager explaining ahead of kick-off he, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez were 'not quite ready yet' with the trio set to feature in the final warm-up game against AC Milan on Saturday.
While United has been prepared to offload Rashford, a lack of serious suitors suggests a move is now unlikely. Carrick, who played alongside the forward for two years before his retirement, is now regarding him as part of his plans.
United went into the summer hoping to sign another left wing option but those plans were always dependent on Rashford's future. Matheus Cunha regularly took up a role on the left last season with Patrick Dorgu and youngster Shea Lacey two further options this season.
