Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly wanted by Juventus, with transfer dialogue still open over a potential move. United are also facing the prospect of losing Ethan Wheatley, with Everton targeting the 20-year-old.
Zirkzee's Future at Old Trafford
The Dutchman has three years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, but continues to see his future the subject of speculation. A return to Serie A has been repeatedly mooted, with the likes of AS Roma and Napoli suggested as potential destinations. The Athletic and Gazetta dello Sport have highlighted the Turin side's interest.
Luciano Spalletti's outfit are reportedly keeping dialogue open over a move for the Dutch international on a temporary basis. Any deal could include an obligation to buy for the former Serie A striker, who netted 11 goals in 34 appearances prior to his big-money Premier League move.
Loan Move Possible
Italian outlet La Gazetta claimed that Juve aren't in a position to make the move for a permanent transfer, while the suggestion is that United are willing to loan the striker this summer. The 25-year-old has endured a difficult chapter at United, including a low point in December 2024 when he was booed by supporters, and scored just two goals in 24 Premier League appearances last season.
His role under new permanent head coach Michael Carrick remains unclear, but he was on the scoresheet during their pre-season friendly win over Leeds United. Juventus' interest could hinge on the future of Jonathan David, with Aston Villa registering an interest. Randal Kolo Muani and Jeff Ekhator have bolstered Juve's attacking options, but Spalletti is said to be keen on further improving his frontline.
Wheatley's Potential Reunion
Everton technical director and former United academy chief, Nick Cox, meanwhile, could reunite with Wheatley. The striker is being eyed by the Toffees to strengthen their under-21 ranks. The MEN has reported that the Stockport-born talisman is highly thought of by Cox after monitoring his development at United. Cox previously said about the England youth international: "If you drew a No.9, you'd draw him looking like Ethan."
The 20-year-old didn't travel to Dublin for the pre-season clash with Daniel Farke's side as other youth squad members were preferred. He was on the bench five times during the 2024/25 season but didn't make it on for an appearance, and he spent the second half of last season on loan in League One with Bradford City. The ECHO has claimed that proposals are not at an advanced stage, meanwhile the North West club continue to bolster their academy talent with Kai Hutchison signing from Dundee United this summer.
