Manchester United are in advanced talks with Juventus over a loan move for Joshua Zirkzee, with the Serie A side also securing a £30 million option to buy the striker. The Dutch forward has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford since his arrival in 2024.
Zirkzee's United Struggles
The 25-year-old has scored just five goals in 56 Premier League appearances for the Reds. Despite interest in a summer exit, Zirkzee reportedly wants to prove himself under manager Michael Carrick and earn a regular starting spot. However, United are said to be open to his departure.
Juventus Pivot After Failed Kolo Muani Deal
Juventus had been pursuing Paris Saint-Germain's Kolo Muani, but after failing to agree a fee, they have quickly turned their attention to Zirkzee. The Italian club are described as the most serious suitor, although Roma also hold a long-standing interest. Luciano Spalletti's side are considered favourites, with talks progressing faster.
Zirkzee's Italian Experience
Zirkzee is familiar with Serie A, having spent one season on loan at Parma and two seasons at Bologna. The Dutchman reportedly sees the Italian league as a better tactical fit for his playing style, and his representatives have responded positively to Juventus's approach.
United are willing to accept a loan with a £30m buy option, even though they paid approximately £36.5m to sign him two years ago. Club officials reportedly view the fee as a fair reflection of his value given his lack of consistency at the club.
Current Squad Position
Zirkzee currently sits behind Benjamin Sesko and Mateus Cunha in the pecking order at United. Marcus Rashford's potential return to the squad could further reduce his opportunities. Despite this, the Netherlands international was reportedly told in January that a move was not possible, but a summer transfer now appears more likely.
