Liverpool have intensified their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande after seeing a €100 million bid rejected, according to reports. The Reds have identified the 19-year-old as a priority target to strengthen their attack, viewing him as a long-term replacement for the departing Mohamed Salah.
Bid Rejected
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Liverpool lodged a nine-figure offer for the Bundesliga sensation, who has impressed this season and caught the eye in Ivory Coast's World Cup opener against Ecuador. However, the German club turned down the approach, with reports suggesting they want north of €100 million, potentially up to €120 million, to sell their star asset.
New Era at Anfield
The pursuit comes as new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola begins his project at Anfield, replacing the sacked Arne Slot. Iraola has already welcomed his first signing, Victor Munoz, a £34.5 million winger from Osasuna who was hijacked from Newcastle United. But the Merseyside club are far from done in overhauling their wide areas.
David Ornstein reports that Liverpool informed Leipzig of their willingness to pay a package worth €100 million, while Romano added that the bid was turned down. Leipzig are hopeful that Paris Saint-Germain and other European giants will spark a bidding war for the forward.
However, The Athletic claims that Liverpool are also exploring alternative targets should prising Diomande away from the Red Bull Arena prove too challenging.
