Fares Ghedjemis' agent has confirmed that both Celtic and Rangers made transfer offers for the Algeria international during the summer window. However, he insists that Frosinone's hardline stance was the main reason the winger did not leave the Serie A club.
Interest from Old Firm and Monaco
The 24-year-old was targeted by both sides of the Old Firm, as well as Monaco in Ligue 1. Sources in Italy claimed that offers of upwards of £8 million were rejected for the player.
Ghedjemis reportedly went AWOL from Frosinone's first three matches of the new season in order to force a move away. He has since been welcomed back into the fold by manager Massimiliano Alvini and supporters at the Benito Stirpe Stadium.
New contract and ongoing interest
The newly promoted side have made a flying start to the campaign and sit sixth in the table with 10 points from their first six games. Ghedjemis has now penned a new contract with the club until 2030, but his agent Fabrizio Ferrari has revealed that interest in the player has not gone away.
Speaking to Stile TV, he said: "The boy had received numerous offers abroad, three from major clubs playing in Europe."
"Frosinone made a huge effort not to sell the player, passing up a major transfer for a very talented player who has proven his worth, albeit in Serie B."
"In Italy, we have the habit of waiting for the boy to prove himself in Serie A and then spending much more a year later."
"People keep calling me from abroad and coming to see him live, while in Italy everything is at a standstill in October."
"The problem isn't his passport, but that our clubs don't trust young players coming from Serie B."
Owner's stance on the transfer
Last month, Frosinone's Maurizio Stirpe insisted that their wealthy owners - US firm Clara Vista Investment Partners - blocked Ghedjemis from going anywhere.
"If it were up to me, I would have sold him", he stated. "He stayed because Clara Vista stubbornly made him stay. It's a relationship that needs to be rebuilt on more solid foundations."
"We can't afford what happened in recent weeks. It's unpleasant for someone to refuse to play. Clara Vista is unprejudiced in this regard."
