Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-2 6-4 in the final of the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia, securing the $6m prize—the largest single payday in tennis. Although an exhibition, the victory avenged Sinner's US Open final loss to Alcaraz last month.
The Italian’s only official win against Alcaraz in their last eight meetings came at Wimbledon, but his improved serve proved decisive in Riyadh. Alcaraz acknowledged the challenge, saying, “When Jannik is playing at this level, it’s always difficult.”
Earlier, Novak Djokovic retired from his third-place match against Taylor Fritz after losing a 75-minute first set. The 38-year-old apologised to the crowd, citing physical issues. “Now it's rest and really addressing some of the issues I have with my body,” he said, casting doubt on his remaining season.
Djokovic has qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin, where Sinner, the defending champion, will also compete. Sinner is also set to lead Italy’s Davis Cup defence, potentially facing Alcaraz’s Spain. Both players expressed mutual respect, with Alcaraz noting their “special friendship off the court.”
