Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer from Celta Vigo. The Spanish defender has signed a four-year deal, becoming new manager Pierre Sage's first signing of the summer transfer window.

Mingueza's Career and Background

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career in Spain, progressing through Barcelona's La Masia academy before making his senior debut in 2020. He won the Copa del Rey and made 66 appearances for Barcelona before moving to Celta Vigo in 2022. Mingueza is capable of playing anywhere across the backline and has earned four senior caps for Spain, starting the 2025 UEFA Nations League final against Portugal.

Player's Reaction

Speaking about his move, Mingueza said: "I'm really excited to be here. It's an honour to join Crystal Palace and I can't wait to see you at Selhurst Park. I think it's a really good place for me and for my family to be in London, and I'm really excited. I already want to start training and playing."

He added: "I think it's an exciting time. It's something that made me want to come to Crystal Palace – the new coach, the way he plays and that the last few years at this club have been really good. I hope we can continue going on and we will try to win more trophies."

Playing Style

Describing his style, Mingueza said: "I'm a player who tries to find a good pass. I like to play a lot of passes first time. I like to drive forward and cross the ball. I believe I can defend higher and use my speed. But I'm excited for the supporters to get to know me and for me to show my best."

European Experience

Mingueza's European experience could benefit Palace in the Europa League next season. He was named in the competition's team of the season for the 2025-26 campaign after helping Celta Vigo reach the quarter-finals.

Club Statement

Palace chairman Steve Parish commented: "We are delighted to welcome a player of Oscar's quality and character to the club. His track record speaks for itself, with experience at the highest level for both club and country. We believe he will be a fantastic fit for Crystal Palace."
