Erling Haaland's father Alf-Inge has suggested the Manchester City striker would be interested in joining Real Madrid, saying 'anyone would want to play for Madrid' and 'you never know what can happen in football'.
Haaland's World Cup heroics
Haaland scored a late brace to fire Norway into the World Cup quarter-finals, knocking out Brazil. The 25-year-old is joint-top goalscorer at the tournament with seven goals, alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. He broke the deadlock with a header past Arsenal's Gabriel, then sealed the win with a crisp strike from the edge of the box.
Haaland has 62 goals in 54 international appearances, scoring in his last 14 games. He also won three Premier League Golden Boots and extended his Manchester City contract at the start of 2025.
Real Madrid links
Despite his long-term contract, Haaland is frequently linked with Real Madrid. Last month, Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed he would sign Haaland this summer if he beat Florentino Perez in the election.
Appearing on DAZN before Norway's win over Brazil, Alf-Inge Haaland said: 'He's very happy at Manchester City and has a long contract. We're waiting for the new season, but anyone would want to play for Madrid. You never know what can happen in football.'
Brazil's exit and Ancelotti's reaction
Brazil, managed by Carlo Ancelotti, were eliminated before the quarter-finals. Ancelotti said: 'I think we are all extremely sad... I also think that in today's match we deserved to win. When you go through a moment like this, you have to think that the loss is the beginning of a new adventure.'
New Manchester City manager
Haaland will play under new City manager Enzo Maresca next season, after Pep Guardiola's departure.
