Socceroos defender Jason Geria has called on school principals and employers to allow students and workers to watch the team's final World Cup group match against Paraguay on Thursday in San Francisco (Friday AEST). In a video message, Geria said, 'Let them watch it ... 12pm on a Friday, it doesn't get much better than that leading into the weekend, so if they could let their employees or let their students watch, I think that would be amazing.'
Match Context and Stakes
Both Australia and Paraguay are in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage, with a draw almost certainly guaranteeing progression for both sides. However, Geria dismissed any notion of playing for a draw, stating, 'I think you're cheating the game in a way if you're looking to just call a truce with 10 minutes to go – that doesn't seem right in my opinion.'
Geria's Commitment to Winning
Geria emphasized that the team will not seek a 'truce' on the pitch. 'We're going out to win the game,' he said. The match is scheduled for Friday afternoon Australian time, making it accessible for viewing during school and work hours.
