Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic begins his 2025 campaign against China's Wu Yibing on Centre Court today, as he seeks a record eighth title at the All England Club and his first Grand Slam victory since the 2023 US Open.
Djokovic's Path and Fitness
The 39-year-old Serbian, currently ranked world No. 8, has not won a major since triumphing at Flushing Meadows in 2023. His most recent Wimbledon title came in 2022, but he was defeated in straight sets by Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 final. However, with Alcaraz ruled out due to a wrist injury, Djokovic faces one fewer obstacle in his quest for a 25th Grand Slam title.
Djokovic expressed confidence in his physical condition ahead of the tournament, telling reporters: "In terms of overall physical state, I think I am better prepared here than I was for Roland Garros. I have a very good score here, and history in Wimbledon, so that gives me a higher dose of confidence coming into the tournament."
Opponent: Wu Yibing
Djokovic's first-round opponent is world No. 99 Wu Yibing, who has never advanced past the first round at Wimbledon. The Chinese player faces a daunting task against the seven-time champion on Centre Court.
