County Durham house fire death 'non-suspicious'

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that the cause of a house fire in County Durham, which led to the death of a man in his 40s, is not being treated as suspicious. A file is now being prepared for the coroner.

The fire broke out at a property on Park Road in the Witton Park area on September 25, shortly after 8am. It is understood to have started in the kitchen. Emergency crews attended the scene, and the man was taken out of the house, but despite their efforts, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation findings

A joint police and fire service investigation was launched to determine the cause of the blaze. Following the inquiry, Durham Constabulary has confirmed the cause as "non-suspicious".

The North East Ambulance Service said they were called to the Woodside area of Bishop Auckland at 8.12am and dispatched a clinical team leader to the scene.

Authorities are now preparing a file for the coroner in connection with the incident.
