Bruno Guimaraes Arsenal Move Called 'Crazy' by Stelling

Former Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling has described Bruno Guimaraes as 'crazy' for considering a move to Arsenal motivated by a desire to live in London. The Newcastle United captain has informed the club he wishes to leave this summer, with Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champions, expressing strong interest.

Guimaraes Seeks Trophies and London Life

According to former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, Guimaraes wants to join Arsenal to win major trophies. Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: 'He wants to come to Arsenal now to win trophies. He's seen Arsenal win the Premier League and got to the Champions League final, he's going to win more trophies now at Arsenal than he will at Newcastle.' Agbonlahor also suggested that part of the appeal is living in the capital: 'I understand the reason why he is moving but I do think, a little part of it, is coming to the capital city, one of the best cities in the world.'

Stelling's Blunt Response

A visibly taken aback Stelling responded: 'Trophies and money, I can have that, but swapping Newcastle for London? Are you crazy?' When Agbonlahor countered that many prefer London, Stelling doubled down, criticising the capital's litter and congestion. He praised Newcastle's attractions, including the Theatre Royal, Grey Street, Grey's Monument, the racecourse, and Hadrian's Wall, calling it 'one of Europe's great cities.' He added: 'If he goes to Arsenal, what is he going to do, live in the Holloway Road?'

Newcastle's Summer Exits

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for around £69.3 million, while Sandro Tonali is set to finalise a £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal have had a verbal offer rejected by Newcastle for Guimaraes, who turns 29 in November. Due to his age, the Gunners may be reluctant to spend more than £60 million. Newcastle have insisted they will not sell the former Lyon star, who has made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and providing 32 assists.
