Brondby sporting director Julius Ohnesorge has admitted that the Danish club is open to selling Celtic target Benjamin Tahirovic this summer, but revealed that no contact has been made by the Scottish Premiership champions or Borussia Dortmund.
Celtic's Summer Transfer Target
Celtic finally secured their first signing of the window with the £6 million capture of striker Camilo Duran earlier this week. The Hoops continue to be heavily linked with Bosnia and Herzegovina international Tahirovic, who played in all four of his nation's matches at the World Cup as they progressed from the group stage to reach the last 32, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to co-hosts USA.
The 23-year-old midfielder, formerly of Ajax and Roma, has also been touted as a potential target for Borussia Dortmund. Brondby have just bolstered their midfield ranks with the signing of Max Ejdum from domestic rivals Odense.
Ohnesorge's Statement
Speaking to TV2, Ohnesorge said: "He's just finished the World Cup and isn't here right now, so we'll look at the situation with him and his agent when he gets back."
"He can spend the summer talking to his family about what the next step will bring. Whether it's competing here in a strong squad or whether it's at another club."
"Yes, we are open (to selling) but it's about having the right solution ready. With Max Ejdum we have gained some security and stability in the number 8 position, but regardless, there must be a clear interest from the player in a transfer as well as a clear interest from another club for an amount that is beneficial to us."
No Contact from Celtic or Dortmund
Ohnesorge was adamant that there has been no approach from Celtic or the Bundesliga heavyweights. He added: "I haven't heard from either Celtic or Dortmund and I don't follow that kind of thing to be honest. But it's always good to hear that there is interest in our players."
Brondby will sit down with Tahirovic once he returns from his extended break following the World Cup. The club's openness to selling suggests a transfer could be possible if a suitable offer arrives.
