New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has laid down the law in his first interview since taking the reins at Stamford Bridge, declaring that hard work is a non-negotiable requirement for his squad. The Spaniard, appointed at the end of last season, emphasised that building a culture of relentless effort will be the foundation of his tenure.
Alonso's Non-Negotiable: Hard Work Above All
In his inaugural interview with the club, Alonso did not mince words. "You can't hold back anything, everything is for the team," he said. "Hard work is a must." The former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid coach stressed that this ethos must permeate every aspect of the club's daily operations. "We need to create that culture, it starts here in a daily process at Cobham," he added, referring to Chelsea's training ground.
Squad Potential Excites New Boss
Alonso also revealed that the potential within the Chelsea squad was a key factor in his decision to take the job. "The potential of the team and squad made me really excited, to find a squad to work with, create a football idea, bring excitement to the stadium and connect with the fans," he explained. The 44-year-old's comments signal a clear intent to instil discipline and unity as he looks to revive the club's fortunes.
