Joint Leaders in Golden Boot Race
Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi currently lead the race for the World Cup Golden Boot with eight goals each. Both players have scored consistently throughout the tournament, finding the net in the group stage and knockout rounds.
How the Tiebreaker Works
If two players finish with the same number of goals, the award goes to the player with the most assists. If still tied, the player with fewer minutes played wins. Currently, Mbappe has three assists, while Messi has only one.
Other Contenders
Erling Haaland is close behind with seven goals for Norway, followed by England's Harry Kane with six and France's Ousmane Dembele with five.
All-Time Scoring Records
Messi and Mbappe have moved into first and second place on the all-time World Cup scoring list, surpassing Germany's Miroslav Klose, who previously held the record with 16 goals. Messi now has 21 career World Cup goals, while Mbappe has 20.
