Welsh Beach Named UK's Best by Time Out

Time Out has named Traeth Llanddwyn, also known as Newborough Beach, on the Welsh island of Anglesey as the best beach in the UK, beating out popular spots like Tenby and Rhossili. The beach offers spectacular mountain views and is praised for its "heavenly views wherever you turn."

Location and Features

Located on the southwestern tip of Anglesey, the beach features cream sand and dunes scattered with wildflowers, backed by a lush forest. Set against the silhouettes of Eryri National Park's peaks, the views are unmatched. At 2.5 miles long, the beach never feels overcrowded, according to Time Out.

Visitor Reviews

One TripAdvisor visitor wrote: "Gorgeous beach! Where the forest meets the sand, never seen anything like it before. Quite long and spacious, so not crammed full of people. Parking charge, huge car park. Could spend all day here. Toilets available. Beautiful drive coming to the beach." Another added: "Wow. One of the best beaches we have been to ever. Spectacular views, space and adjoining forest area for walking too. The wall and views walking Llanddwyn small island, are breathtaking. Photos cannot do it justice."

Access and Activities

Parking is available, but a car is necessary as public transport does not reach the area. Time Out suggests paddleboarding due to calm waters, with equipment rental from Hiareth Hire for £45 per day. The beach also features the whitewashed lighthouse Tŵr Mawr, a windmill-style building on the tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn, accessible via a scenic two-mile coastal walk taking 30 to 40 minutes each way.
