Kevin Phillips, a former Sunderland striker and one of the Premier League's most prolific marksmen, has declared Everton's Jordan Pickford as England's best-ever goalkeeper. The verdict comes as Pickford prepares to set a new record for the most World Cup appearances by an England player.

On Saturday night, Pickford is expected to earn his 90th cap for England in the World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami. If selected, he will move ahead of Peter Shilton on 18 appearances in the World Cup finals, having equalled Shilton's record of 17 matches during England's 3-2 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.
