Newcastle Mexican Restaurant Owners Divided Over England vs Mexico World Cup Match
Newcastle Mexican Restaurant Owners Divided Over World Cup Match

Family loyalties will be split at a popular Mexican restaurant in Newcastle as England heads to the Azteca Stadium in the early hours of the morning for a last 16 World Cup match against Mexico. Emma Wass, 39, and Jesus Tavizon Sosa, 44, the husband-and-wife team behind Chucho's in Byker, will be on different sides of the fence.

Family Divided by Football

Emma, an England fan, and Jesus, a Mexico fan, have run Chucho's for around 12 years. Both are excited but nervous about the match. "We're big football fans, particularly my husband, he's absolutely obsessed with football," Emma said. "The World Cup being in Mexico is a huge thing for him and he's made the trip over there to be with his best friends. He's managed to get to a couple of matches and now he's coming home with Mexico playing England - so it's going to be a very torn household!"

Emma added, "I'm not really looking forward to watching it, I'm really nervous about it - as a fan, watching England is not easy." Their five-year-old son, Santiago, will experience the best of both worlds.

Kick-Off Time and Future Plans

Emma noted the early kick-off time is a challenge for Santiago. "It's just a bit of a shame with the kick-off time. Santiago hasn't really been able to watch many of the matches because of the timings, but he did watch on Wednesday, and he managed to watch the first Mexico match." She added, "He's so excited but at the same time he's only little, so it's not like he wants to sit and watch a whole match! But when he's a bit older his dad will 100% be taking him to the Azteca. Jesus is already talking about taking him to the next World Cup which will be partly held in Spain."

Weather Threat

England fans heading to the knockout match face a nervous wait as Mexican authorities issued a severe thunderstorm warning, The Mirror reports. The alarming weather charts predicted torrential downpours and frequent lightning that could severely disrupt the schedule at the iconic Azteca Stadium.
